We evaluate how a lens interacts with your cornea, how it affects tear stability, and whether it provides sustained clarity. We will help you start fresh with the right lens and the right care if you have been wearing lenses without a fit check or if no one has evaluated you properly.

A glasses prescription and a contact lens prescription are not the same. During your exam, we take additional measurements that allow us to determine which lenses will fit your eye correctly and safely. We also evaluate how well the lens performs on the eye, not just in terms of vision, but also hydration, stability, and long-term comfort.

Your contact lens evaluation includes:
A review of your current lens history (if applicable)
Corneal imaging to match lens curvature
Tear quality testing for hydration tolerance
Instruction on insertion, removal, and cleaning
A trial fit with post-wear assessment
Follow-up care to ensure success after dispensing
This visit is separate from your routine eye exam and ensures the lenses you wear actually work for your eyes.
Many contact lens issues come from fit problems, not prescription errors. A lens that looks fine in the chair may still rotate, dry out, or shift throughout the day. We assess movement, blink interaction, and comfort after wear, not just during your visit. If a lens isn’t performing after extended use, we’ll make the necessary adjustments.

We frequently work with patients who’ve been told they aren’t candidates for contact lenses or who gave up on them after years of discomfort. In many cases, the problem is the wrong lens or a lack of proper fitting and follow-up.
We will carefully examine and assess your eye’s surface, then advise you based on your needs, rather than the most readily available options.
If your lenses blur, dry out, or never quite feel right, it’s time for a better fit. At The Eye Clinic in Helotes, we take the time to evaluate your lenses on your eyes, not just in your chart.
We never finalize a contact lens prescription until it’s been worn, tested, and confirmed as safe and comfortable for long-term use. Whether it’s your first pair or your fifth refit, we’ll help you find a solution that works.
